Shizukesa
Shizukesa is a collaborative experiment between Nikhil Nagaraj and Vishal Kumaraswamy. What began as a conversation about the dearth of natural silence in the urban environment contrasted with the sudden disappearance of humans in these spaces quickly turned into an opportunity to interpret both sonically and visually, our immediate surroundings and that of the city. The work draws extensively from Nikhil’s bank of field recordings, generative noise textures and couples them with Vishal’s explorations into generative coding and video art as it invites the viewer to observe the unfolding of time and the notion of stillness during this period of uncertainty. The viewer is placed in the interstice created by the duality of spatial music and transformed urban visual impressions with no clear distinction between a beginning and an end. The work is meant to highlight the importance of auditory perception and the influence of its disturbance on health of humans and the environment.
